KFCRIS and ALECSO sign cooperation agreement during the Arab Manuscript Day activities
King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies signed a cooperation agreement with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO) during the meeting between His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Center's Board of Directors, and His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the organization, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Center's premises in Riyadh, on the sidelines of the celebration of the thirteenth session of the Arabic Manuscript Day for the year 2025, which the Center organized in cooperation with the organization.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two sides in the fields of manuscripts and Arab and Islamic heritage, joint work in spreading knowledge and serving Arab culture, as well as exchanging experiences and information in scientific and intellectual fields of mutual interest, in order to achieve the mission of both parties in preserving and safeguarding Arab heritage and raising awareness of its importance. It also aims to promote cooperation between the two parties in various fields, most notably the implementation of joint programs and activities related to Arabic manuscripts, including collection, maintenance, restoration, cataloguing, publication and electronic accessibility, as well as encouraging scientific research in this field and facilitating the exchange of photographs, documents and data between the two institutions, thereby contributing to the enhancement and expansion of scientific content.
The agreement also covers cooperation in preparing and organizing conferences, seminars, scientific meetings, workshops and specialized training courses, as well as publishing scientific publications and periodicals on Arab and Islamic heritage, particularly manuscripts and related studies. The two sides agreed to activate joint work in the field of using modern technologies to digitize manuscripts and make them available to researchers, in addition to exchanging experiences in the field of manual and microbiological restoration, thereby enhancing the sustainability of this cultural heritage and preserving it for future generations.
At the end of the meeting, His Excellency the Director General presented the ALECSO commemorative shield to His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al-Faisal in recognition of his pioneering role in supporting knowledge and scientific research. They affirmed that this agreement comes within the framework of integration between Arab cultural institutions and a continuation of the fruitful cooperation between King Faisal Centre and ALECSO in promoting Arab and Islamic culture and serving written heritage.
